She has done extensive work in hospital and church-based community social work with a focus on serving the needs of the elderly. She has also run her own private practice in individual and group counseling.

She has worked as a state-licensed Long-Term Care Administrator in Connecticut, New Hampshire and California, specializing in correcting the problems of facilities in operational distress and with a focus on protection of residents' rights, employee motivation and education and adherence to local, state and federal regulatory requirements. Her experience includes administration of facilities of up to 180 beds and budgets exceeding $5 million. She has managed profit and not-for profit facilities and union and non-union workforces.
