Dr. Joseph H. Guth was educated and trained in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular genetics and biophysics.  He was involved in toxicological research while in the U. S. Army Chemical Corps stationed at the Army Chemical Research Center in Edgewood Arsenal, MD.  Since 1960 Dr. Guth has been in academic and medical research, applied commercial products research, university-level chemical sciences teaching, commercial laboratory operations, development of new laboratory sampling, testing and analyses methodologies, industrial hygiene/contemporary and retrospective hazardous exposure modeling and assessment, all aspects of asbestos and indoor air quality consultation, quality assurance and quality control practices, environmental science and forensic science. He now spends a majority of his time serving as an independent expert and consultant in various areas of civil law, regulatory law, and also at times involving military law, railroad law, admiralty ! law, Workmen's Compensation law, and various arbitration processes.  He brings over 50 years of laboratory-level and field investigative experience to his cases while presenting solid scientific analysis in a clear manner meant to inform, instruct and answer key questions and issues in a case.

Having owned, operated and directed several commercial testing laboratories and consultation firms over several decades, his professional perspective and experience is quite broad, multi-disciplinary and in-depth.  He has been a named expert in hundreds of legal cases and proceedings across the United States, testifying, reporting and rendering opinions in civil, criminal and regulatory law cases.  His clients include many well-known law firms, insurance companies, local/state and federal governments, government regulatory agencies and administrations, military and large companies but he also has numerous small business and individual clients as well.  He has over 30 years of repeat long-term clients within the legal profession alone as well as having trained and educated several hundred students in a variety of educational and professional areas.  He has met the Frye and Daubert standards as an expert testifying in plaintiff as well as defense civil cases.

One of his tools !often needed is the ability to render retrospective exposure models of events leading up to the occurrence of diseases such as cancer, immune system malfunction and other toxic injury.  He frequently works with physicians to develop stronger causality evidence in cases involving exposures and disease or injury.  He maintains many certifications and qualifications to provide the broadest view of a case's central issues.
