Responsible for the complete management of the Company and the conduct of forensic and factual investigations. This calls for the attendance to and investigation of, various types of insurance claims including burglary, motor vehicle theft, travel, fire and liability claims. Investigations consisting of recorded interviews, typewritten statements, knowledge of insurance practice and procedures, insurer and insured rights and obligations.

Liaison with underwriting and claims personnel from clerical officers to management, of various major underwriters in Australia. Liaison and operating under instructions from legal advisors on behalf of insurance companies. Review of litigated matters and supply of opinions regarding investigated matters of behalf of insurers and legal advisors. Photography and plan drawing, where relevant to insurance claims and investigations. The identification and evaluation of physical and circumstantial evidence relative to various matters associated with insurance claims. The submission of samples and selection of laboratories for further analysis of those samples to assist in the determination of suspected fraudulent insurance claims. The early identification of legitimate claims with timely advice to insurers to enable proper and appropriate responses to representations by clients and claims finalisation.

Since the establishment of this company, I have been involved in numerous matters and scene examinations involving residential, commercial, industrial and motor vehicle fires which included appointment as a forensic examiner of the HMAS Westralia fire at Perth in May 1998.
Since 2004 I have written and remain a column writer for Electrical Connection Magazine on electrical causation of fire. I am currently a lecturer to the NSW Police Arson Course. I have examined and provided opinion evidence to both prosecution and defence legal counsel. Has provided opinions for the NSW Coroner as an expert in fire examination. Currently licenced as an Electrical Contractor in NSW. Recently appointed as the lecturer in fire and explosion examination for the Bachelor of Forensic Science course at the Canberra Institute of Technology.

Fire Investigator
Responsible for the investigation and management of fire investigation associated with insurance claims underwritten by NRMA Insurance including investigations conducted in other states.  This involved examining scenes of fire to determine the origin and cause, the subsequent factual investigation, the selection and appointment of internal and external investigators to matters involving, accidental cause, criminal fraud, insurance contracts, contractual obligations and recovery actions. Directly involved with advice to management and legal personnel relative to investigative matters, direction of inquiries, analysis of process and training of staff. Evaluation of investigative reports from external investigators and recommendation on subsequent action. Liaison with legal representatives and government departments. I was responsible for the day to day reporting and recording of suspicious claims surrounding fire, the detection and the subsequent presentation of evidence at various Courts and tribunals. These matters have led to the denial of claims, successful defense of litigated matters and criminal convictions of accused persons identified during those investigations, conducted or directed by me involving millions of dollars during this period. Ongoing involvement in the training of Police in NSW relative to fire investigation with investigative and forensic roles. Internal staff inquiries related to insurance claims, audit requirements and process. During the last eight months of this employment, I was engaged in the supervision of the abovementioned areas with my daily involvement surrounding complex staff fraud allegations, interviewing and reporting to management.

Arson and Fraud Investigator
Responsible for investigation associated with numerous types of insurance matters, investigative direction, training of staff, liaison with other insurers, barristers, solicitors and government departments. This particular role involved the investigation and examination of many and varied types of claims involving but not limited to, industrial, domestic and commercial risks encompassing, machinery breakdown, loss of profits, fidelity guarantee, burglary, fire, marine, liability and travel. I was a delegate to the IRS, responsible for the examination of process and information, which lead to the establishment of the search parameters for the IRS system.

Criminal Investigation Duties
Responsible for the collection of evidence associated with criminal matters whilst attached to the State Intelligence Group Arson and Explosives Unit. Responsible for the collation of information and determination of intelligence for dissemination, presentations to and briefing of, senior Police administration, to enable timely and effective management.

Scientific Investigation Section
These responsibilities surrounded daily examination of scenes of serious crime as an ‘expert’ in crime scene examination for evidence collection and later presentation at Court. Training of Police and external agencies in matters associated with investigation of serious crime. Liaison with the Anti Fraud Task Force associated with the Insurance Industry, NSW Fire Brigades, Education Department and other agencies. Due to my qualifications in the electrical industry, I was identified early in my career to focus on fire and explosion examination. Training in this Section was extensive leading to other Police being appointed to be trained by me. These duties included being appointed as second in charge of the I District Scientific Investigation Section responsible for crime scene examination in the Fairfield, Cabramatta, Liverpool and Campbelltown areas from 1985 to 1988. It was whilst attached to the Scientific Investigation Section that I was trained in evidence identification, collection, packaging, transportation and evaluation, photography and plan drawing.  On call IED (Bomb) Technician.

Self-Employed Electrical Contractor           1978 TO 1981
(Continued to manage and operate that business until 1990)

Licensed Electrical Contractor in New South Wales responsible for the management of an electrical contracting business established in the building industry in 1978 and developing to encompass a specialisation in swimming pool and spa installation. This then led to the establishment of a further business of pool and spa solar heating. Competent in all types of electrical installation, installation and maintenance of electrical circuitry and appliances. These included overhead cranes, control panels used in the control of electrical equipment, fault diagnosis and repair. Electrical testing of equipment and circuits associated with electrical malfunctions. Maintenance and repairs of equipment in commercial and business applications, including offices and restaurants. As I employed other electricians, this business continued to operate whilst I was a member of the NSW Police Force.
