Career Paul Doherty is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist
and for over 10 years has specialized in the assessment
and development of individuals at work, particularly for
people with health problems or disabilities. He has been
giving expert witness testimony as an employment consultant
in loss of earnings litigation since 1993.
Mr Doherty is fully conversant with the Civil Procedure
Rules, and is experienced in writing Joint Statements
and preparing Single Joint reports.
The
balance of Mr Dohertys work between Claimant and Defendant
has been 55% to 60% Defendant over the past four years.
Increasingly his work is on the basis of Single Joint Instructions.
He is on the Treasury Solicitor and APIL approved expert
witness panel. He is listed in the Law Society Directory
of Expert Witnesses.
In terms of expert witness experience, between 1994 and
1999, Mr Doherty was an associate, later senior associate,
of Veronica Wood Associates Limited. Between 1999 and 2002,
Mr Doherty was a partner in Carson Dawkins Doherty. In August
2002, Mr Doherty set up Paul Doherty Associates, a firm
of occupational psychologists focusing on providing expert
witness advice / reports in vocational assessment, rehabilitation
& loss of earnings.
Since
January 1994, Mr Doherty has also worked as a freelance
occupational psychologist, specialising in the assessment
of the employment capabilities of people with disabilities
and health problems. In 2001, he was acting Managing Psychologist
to Coutts Consultants Ltd, where he assisted (and still
does) in the career development of senior managers.
Between 1991 and 1994, Mr Doherty was the head occupational
psychologist at the Hobbs Unit (part of Wiltshire Social
Services), a vocational assessment and rehabilitation service
for individuals with disabilities. His work encompassed
careers guidance, work preparation and job retention services
to employers.
Between
1986 and 1991 he worked as an Experimental Psychologist
for the Ministry of Defence where he specialized in the
assessment of human performance under stress and researched
into computer based training methods. In addition, he was
responsible for initial interviews on the university "milk
round" of applicants to scientific and engineering
posts in the MoD.
In the mid 1980's Mr Doherty worked as a recruitment consultant
in the Midlands, specialising in executive and professional
recruitment.
