Mr. Bohra has an active interest in medico legal work.. He is based in Midlands and sees clients in Birmingham, Halesowen and Derby. He is aware of the requirements of Part 35 and Practice Direction 35, the Protocol for the Instruction of Experts to give Evidence in Civil Claims and the Practice Direction on pre-action conduct. He obtained the 'Bond Solon Civil Procedure Rules for Expert Witnesses Certificate' to evidence his understanding and compliance with the above requirements. He has undertaken numerous courses and attended relevant conferences to keep himself updated in the field. He has been providing medical expert witness reports over the last 9 years for law firms and agencies across the country. He is a member of the BMLS (Birmingham Medico Legal Society). He has also worked for NHS LA and has been an invited speaker for NHS LA in the past. He provides reports for a variety of General and Gastrointestinal Surgical cases, Accident claims, and Negligence claims. He has experience of providing report for claimants, defendants and joint representation and joint reporting. The medico legal interest in surgical issues includes medico legal reports, case management reporting, injury or trauma including hernia, accident claim, emergency surgery, medical errors, medical negligence, clinical negligence and accident claims pertaining to general health care, symptoms, major and minor general surgical procedures and complications, and subspecialty issues related to abdominal, laparoscopic and gastro-intestinal surgery. Qualifications:

Experience:

After graduation in 1989, Ashok Bohra has undergone extensive surgical training. He also passed the relevant examinations during this period. In 2005 he was awarded MPhil by University of Newcastle for his research project. He was awarded the CCST and entered the GMC Specialist Register after successful completion of Higher Surgical Training in 2005.

During the course of his training he had the privilege of working in numerous District General Hospitals across England and Northern Ireland. He has also acquired advanced sub specialty (Upper GI / Laparoscopic) training from tertiary centres in Belfast, Liverpool and Leeds. He attained bariatric surgical training in UK and then a fellowship in Belgium.

He was appointed as a substantive Consultant in General, laparoscopic and Upper GI Surgery in 2005 at Wigan before moving to Dudley. In 2015 he joined the Upper GI team at the Royal Derby Hospital. This is part of the Derby Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Apart from General Surgical on-calls for emergency and acute admissions, the clinical work involves elective General Surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery including Oesophago gastric cancer and Bariatric surgery and endoscopy.

He is an Honorary (Cons) Assistant Professor in Nottingham University. He was an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the School of Clinical and Experimental Medicine within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham. He is an Examiner and was College Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons. He has published in various journals and presented at both national and international forums. He was a member of the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee and a National PEER Reviewer for Upper GI Cancer services. He is a Senior Clinical Examiner and Teacher. He is a designated educational and clinical supervisor for surgical trainees. As Audit Lead he was actively engaged in clinical governance issues including morbidity and mortality reviews. He is a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of The Royal College of Edinburgh (MFSTEd). He was part of the specially invited All Party Parliamentary Group for reception at The House of Commons.

He has an active interest in clinical management and medical education, both undergraduate and postgraduate. He has a PG Cert in Clinical Leadership and Service Improvement, and a PG Diploma in Clinical Education. He has wide clinical experience, having also worked as Honorary Visiting Surgeon at University Hospital of Birmingham, University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and Walsall Manor Hospital. During a period of surgical training and experience spanning over 27 years, Mr. Bohra has also got an active interest in audit and research and has regular satisfactory Appraisals and Revalidation as a Consultant as per the DOH guidelines. He has published in various journals and presented at both national and international forums.
